PM Vishwakarma Yojana: Financial & Skill Boost for Craftsmen

It is a new Central Sector Scheme launched on September 17, 2023, by PM Narendra Modi that falls within the jurisdiction of the Ministry of MSME. For instance, it seeks to provide consolidated assistance to artisans and craftspeople engaged in traditional trades, while assuring that India’s heritage and craftsmanship are conserved.

It covers 18 trades, including carpenter, blacksmith, goldsmith, potter, cobbler, mason, tailor, barber, and toy maker, among others. The worker similarly limits itself to the provision of end-to-end assistance, thus guaranteeing sustainability and growth in their crafts. 

What is Vishwakarma Yojana?

The PM Vishwakarma Yojana is an initiative of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) which will help artisans and craftsfolk. It has been inaugurated by Prime Minister on September 17, 2023. 

Objective and benefits of PM Vishwakarma Yojana

The PM Vishwakarma scheme is designed to support artisans and craftspersons in India, including financial assistance, skill training, and marketing support. This program is implemented by the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME).

Benefits of PM Vishwakarma Yojana

There are many benefits of Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana:

Eligibility for this scheme:   

  • The applicant must be 18 years of age or above.
  • At the time of application, the applicant must be actively engaged in his/her business.
  • The applicant should not have received benefits from schemes like PMMY, PM Swanidhi, or Mudra in the last five years.

How much loan will be available under Vishwakarma Yojana and what will be the interest rate?

All the artisans and craftsmen eligible for Vishwakarma Yojana will be given a loan of up to Rs 3 lakh in two installments at a concessional interest rate of 5 percent per annum.

500 rupees will be given daily

Vishwakarma scheme will be a two-type skill development program, the first being ‘basic’ and the second being ‘advanced’. Those who do this course will also get honorarium (stipend). Beneficiaries receiving skill training will be given honorarium at the rate of Rs 500 per day. Under this scheme, a loan of up to Rs 100000 will be given in the first phase, on which concessional interest (maximum 5 percent) will be payable. After organizing the business, a concessional loan of Rs 2 lakh will be provided in the second phase.

How to apply for Vishwakarma Yojana?

The online application or registration process for PM Vishwakarma Yojana has started, applications for the scheme are being received online through CSC or Common Service Center.

  • Artisan Registration
  • PM Vishwakarma Certificate
  • Application for Loan

All these steps of application can be completed through CSC or Gram Panchayat.

How to register for Vishwakarma Yojana?

The process of registering for Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana is as follows?

First of all go to the official website of Vishwakarma Yojana pmvishwakarma.gov.in. Which will look like this.

After that click on the link of “How to Register” on the homepage.

After clicking on the link of How to Register, a new page like this will open in front of you in which you have to click on the tab of “Artisan”.

However, you cannot register for Vishwakarma Yojana by yourself, you will have to go to your nearest CSC or Common Service Center for registration. Complete information about registration through Common Service Center is available in this PDF.

When is the Last Date of Vishwakarma Yojana?

  • Eligibility for Vishwakarma Yojana
  • Artisan or craftsman working with hands and tools
  • Engaged in family-based traditional occupations
  • Engaged on the basis of self-employment in the unorganized sector
  • Minimum age 18 years on the date of registration
  • Engaged in related trade on the date of registration
  • Has not taken loan under similar credit-based schemes of Central Government or State Government
  • Has not availed PMEGP, PM Swanidhi, Mudra Yojana in the last 5 years
  • Registration and benefits under the scheme limited to one member of the family (husband, wife and unmarried children)

Required Documents for PM Vishwakarma Yojana – Beneficiaries must 

compulsorily submit documents like Aadhaar, mobile number, bank details, ration card for registration (Vishwakarma Yojana Registration) on PM Vishwakarma portal. Apart from this, beneficiaries may also need to provide additional documents or information as per the requirements set by MoMSME.

Here is a list of some additional documents that may be asked from the beneficiaries

  • Caste Certificate: This certificate confirms which community the beneficiary belongs to.
  • Income Certificate: This certificate shows the annual income of the beneficiary.
  • Residence Certificate: This certificate shows the current address of the beneficiary.
  • Educational Qualification Certificate: This certificate shows the educational qualification of the beneficiary.
  • Skill Certificate: This certificate shows the skills and experience of the beneficiary.
  • Occupation Certificate: This certificate shows the occupation (if any) of the beneficiary.

It is important to note that the above list is just an example and the documents asked for by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises may vary.

Also keep in mind that to avail the benefits under PM Vishwakarma Yojana, beneficiaries must meet all the eligibility criteria set by the government.

Who will get the benefit of this scheme

According to the scheme, the professions included in the first phase include carpenter, boat maker, weapon maker, blacksmith, hammer and tool kit maker, locksmith, goldsmith, potter, sculptor, cobbler, mason, basket/mat/broom maker, doll and toy maker, barber, garland maker, washerman, tailor and fishing net maker. All the artisans associated with these professions can get the benefit of this scheme.
